The Bendigo Water Treatment Plant is designed to produce up to 126 megalitres of water per day to a population of 110,000. That's expected to grow to 155,000 by 2036!
Commissioned in 2002, the plant receives water from the onsite Sandhurst Reservoir. Raw water travels to the plant from two sources; our storage catchments via the Coliban Main Channel and Lake Eppalock via the Goldfields Superpipe.
The plant uses a range of commonly used water treatment processes, which include filtration, disinfection, PH adjustment and fluoridation. These methods treat any taste or odour issues that may be present in the raw water.
A 100 kilowatt solar system on the plant offsets a proportion of the plant's electricity consumption, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by about 180 tonnes of CO2-e each year.
