Investment in the Future

Increased investment in renewable energy sources is an essential part of Coliban Water reaching its goal of net zero emissions by 2030.

As well as reducing emissions, more renewables will see us achieve reduced operational costs over time.

Our investment in the largest solar farm in Victoria, as well as the installation of solar arrays on our facilities are tangible investments in the fight against climate change.

  • Zero Emissions Water

We have invested in the Zero Emissions Water (ZEW) project in partnership with other Victorian Water Corporations. The project is underpinned by a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to procure renewable electricity from the 200MW Kiamal Solar Farm, near Ouyen.

The renewable component is measured by Large-Scale Generation Certificates (LGCs). Each certificate represents 1 megawatt hour (MWh) of renewable electricity that Coliban Water can use to reduce our grid-based emissions.

  • Bendigo Water Treatment Plant

This 100 kilowatt system installed in 2019 by our partner, Veolia, has been offsetting a large proportion of the electricity consumption at the facility. As a result, the installation is reducing emissions by approximately 180 tonnes of CO2-e per year.
