Background

For a bit of history – the Guildford tank was last used for a short time in 2017, however the design of the tank and interconnecting pipework caused water pressure fluctuations for some customers, so it was taken offline.

We’ve now redesigned the tank and are confident our upgrades will provide an appropriate fix.

What's happening now?

Guildford and Yapeen are at the end of the Castlemaine water supply network, meaning high pressure is needed to move water through the system. This pressure is at the upper limit of what our water mains can handle, resulting in more frequent bursts and water supply interruptions.

By using the localised tank, water pressure in Guildford and Yapeen can be eased, putting less stress on water mains and maintaining good pressure for customers.

The redesign includes:

  • New inlet and outlet pipes and new pressure valves
  • A new water main on Havelock Street
  • Upgrade of Fryers Street booster pump station

What are the benefits?

These upgrades will mean improved water security for customers in Guildford and Yapeen, with more appropriate water pressure and fewer bursts and water outages.
