We are building a new booster pump station and two clear water storage tanks in Wilkinson Drive, Echuca. The Echuca West Tanks (EWT) project cost is $4.4 million. Both tanks will be 3 megalitres in capacity, approximately six meters high and 28 meters in diameter. The pump station will be enclosed in noise-reducing casing and the entire site will be fenced to ensure public safety.

Echuca has experienced significant growth since the original water tower was built 130 years ago. With 75 per cent of future growth predicted to be on the western side of Echuca, the Echuca West Tank Project will provide additional water supply security for the region. The EWT Project is part of a $15 million investment into the Echuca region, which includes a $9 million upgrade to the Echuca Water Treatment Plan to improve capacity, storage and disinfection. It also includes wastewater improvements and new sewer odour mitigation systems.

The Echuca West Tanks Project will provide additional security of supply for customers, accommodating for continued growth and improved water pressure in the west of Echuca. This project will help us address the significant growth that has occurred in Echuca West and ensure that we can continue to supply adequate water pressure to these households. The extra pump

The location for the tanks is opposite Twin Rivers Primary School in Wilkinson Drive, Echuca. We are required to ensure adequate supply of service to all customers in the service region. This requires careful planning in the earliest stages of land development. The land known as Murray Garden Estate was previously owned by Coliban Water and was intended to be used for wastewater treatment. In consultation with the Shire of Campaspe, the area was developed into what you see today, with parcels of land being sold to schools and private developers. The tanks site remained the property of Coliban Water to be used for water storages. During the development of the area infrastructure including $1.1 million of trunk mains were installed in anticipation for the EWT project. The land is ideally situated to support the growing west of Echuca and improve water supply for the network.

We are working closely with Campaspe Shire council to ensure we meet the needs of future population growth. Additionally, we have consulted with nearby land owners including local schools and Murray Garden Estate representatives. A community update was posted to all Echuca residents in May 2020 informing them of the project and providing an opportunity to have input into the colour design of the project. Consultation with the community will be conducted again to decide final design of the fencing and boundary screening.

The site can be monitored remotely, with operators only required to attend the site for maintenance or inspections. The site will be maintained by our partner Lendlease, which also manages the Echuca Water Treatment Plant.
