Planning permit update - Castlemaine WRP

28 April 2025

We wanted to provide an update to our Castlemaine Water Reclamation Plant (WRP) upgrade project.

Late last year we submitted our planning permit application for the upgrade to the Mount Alexander Shire Council. As part of the review process, the application is now on public display, providing an opportunity for the community and interested stakeholders to review the proposal and provide feedback.

Our application is available through the My Mount Alexander link on the Mount Alexander website and formal submissions can be made until Wednesday, 7 May.

The upgrade to the Castlemaine WRP in Langslow Street will be a transformative investment in public health infrastructure for the local community. The plant treats wastewater collected from across Castlemaine as well as the surrounding towns of Chewton, Newstead, Maldon and Harcourt.

The current plant has served our community well however it is reaching capacity and needs to be upgraded to meet the future needs of the community and the environment.

Our application includes all relevant information, and is available on the Mount Alexander website in the My Mount Alexander section until Wednesday, 7 May.

As part council’s period of public advertisement you can review our proposal and provide feedback - we encourage feedback on our application.

Following the public display period, Mount Alexander Shire Council reviews all feedback received as part of their process.
