Our plans for the Castlemaine Water Reclamation Plant

20 November 2024

We have submitted our Development Licence Application to the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) as part of plans to build a new state of the art water reclamation plant in Castlemaine.

The Development Licence Application is an important milestone and a key EPA approval. We need this for the planned upgrades as it sets the requirements of how the plant should operate.

Under EPA legislation we must apply for and receive a Development License for the proposed major upgrade works planned for the Langslow Street plant to ensure the new plant meets the required environmental standards.

As part of the EPA’s review process there will be a period of public consultation which is an opportunity for local residents and other stakeholders to review our submission and provide feedback.

Our application along with relevant information is available on www.engage.vic.gov.au until Monday, 16 December. We encourage feedback from the community and look forward to progressing these plans and upgrades.

Key project benefits

The Castlemaine Water Reclamation Plant Upgrade is a once-in-a-generation project which will serve the community for the next 30 years and help us face the challenges of climate change, ageing infrastructure, and a growing population.

As well as Castlemaine, surrounding towns of Chewton, Newstead, Maldon and Harcourt will benefit from the upgraded plant.

The proposed upgrades include a new water reclamation plant and advanced solids handling treatment that utilise proven best-available technologies and techniques, all within the existing 30-acre site.
