January 12 update - Odour works

12 January 2024

The Castlemaine Water Reclamation Plant was unaffected by the wet weather event that swept through our region in the past week.

Bureau of Meteorology data shows nearby Redesdale received 120.8mm of rain since Sunday 7 January. This rain had no impact on our ongoing odour works.

These works continue and include:

  • Monitoring our biofilter beds which had the mulch replaced. This will continue to ensure it is operating at an optimum level.
  • Works to improve the efficiency of one of our biofilter beds are scheduled to be completed by the end of January. A temporary solution is in place.
  • The plant’s second biofilter will be recommissioned as part of our long-term actions.
  • We continue work to install new instruments to help us better monitor and manage odour.
  • We are planning to have our long-term actions completed by the end of February 2024.

If you have an odour concern, you can report this to us online at connect.coliban.com.au/castlemaine-wrp or via the phone, 1300 363 200. For urgent matters, we encourage you to phone us. The more that we receive these reports, the more we can build a picture of the areas of our plant which need the most urgent attention.

Our next update will be Friday 19 January.
