22 March update - Noise update

22 March 2024

We are aware of reports from community members concerned about higher-than-normal noise levels coming from our Castlemaine Water Reclamation Plant.

We are working with noise experts to better understand and reduce noise generated by treatment processes at the plant. This includes recording noise levels in different locations for evaluation.

We are working with contractors to design suitable acoustic enclosures for some of the equipment on-site and will advise customers once these solutions are in place.

In the meantime we are continuing to make adjustments to our treatment processes where we can in an attempt to minimise noise levels.

The Environment Protection Authority is aware of the issue and we are keeping them informed.

The Castlemaine Water Reclamation Plant operate 24 hours a day to treat sewage from Castlemaine and surrounding communities.

We encourage residents in the area to report excessive noise so we can track the impacts in real-time. Please call us on 300 363 200.
