Plant update - June 2024

7 June 2024

There's lots of work taking place at our Bendigo Water Reclamation Plant at Epsom - as part of our routine operations and also in preparation for large-scale upgrades at the plant in over the next five years. More information about our plant, and all the latest updates, available here.

Howard Street update

Our works to upgrade our front gate at the plant are continuing through June.

You may see some changes to traffic on Howard Street, near Bowles Road, as a result of these works.

A temporary entrance is in place for plant users. Traffic management and signage in place along Howard Street, with reduced speed limit to 40km/h.

Neighbours have been notified.

Map available here.

Odour update

Work to reduce odour at our plant continues.

We have completed work to connect our two biofilters together.

This gives us greater operational flexibility and means we can treat gases in one biofilter while refurbishing the other.

We have started preliminary investigations into raising the biofilters, which will increase their treatment capacity.

Our misting system is operating and will help us manage odour in our ATAD system (this is where wastewater sludge is turned into biosolids).

Upcoming works

We are sourcing new inlet covers, which will help reduce any odour from incoming sewage.

This process will take some time and is expected to be completed early 2025.

You can learn more about how we manage odour at the Bendigo Water Reclamation Plant, and how the plant operates, here.

We encourage you to call us on 1300 363 200 to report odour. The more that we receive these reports, the more we can build a picture of the areas of our plant which need the most urgent attention.

Our next update will be on 5 July 2024.
