Plant update - January 2025

10 January 2025

We will complete several maintenance works during January that may result in odours at the plant.

ATAD System recommissioning

At the start of January we started recharging our ATAD system with sludge. Part of this will include beginning the dewatering stage around January 15 and 16 which can produce odours as water is taken out of the sludge.

A misting system will be operated when the ATADs are running again.

ATADs are a key part of our wastewater treatment process, turning sewage sludge into a valued biosolids product for agricultural reuse. Learn more about the ATADs maintenance works here.

High Voltage Maintenance

On 14 January, we will be completing maintenance works on high voltage power supply equipment at the plant, which will take our treatment process offline for part of the day.

During these works sewage arriving at the plant will be stored in the designated bypass lagoon and may result in odours at the site. This is unlikely to cause any offsite odours and we will do our best to minimise problems by returning the bypassed sewage to the plant for treatment as soon as practicable.

There will be no interruption to customers’ sewerage services during these works.

Lagoon Dredging

Dredging of a lagoon at our plant began at the start of January and will be completed in the next week. This involves transferring sludge out the lagoon. This work is unlikely to cause any offsite odours.

Learn more about how we manage odour at our plant here (under the Phase One tab of our website).

We encourage you to call us on 1300 363 200 to report any odour. The more we receive these reports, the more we can build a picture of the areas of our plant that need the most urgent attention.

Upcoming works

Inlet covers at the start of our treatment process will be completed in late January and early February. This will help control odour as sewage arrives at the plant.

In January we will re-line the pipework in the RAS line that transfers sludge from the clarifiers back to the head of the plant for further treatment. We don’t anticipate this will cause extra odour.

Our next update will be on Friday 7 February 2025.
