Plant update - December 2024

16 December 2024

Odour update – We are continuing an upgrade of our ATAD system.

Works will be completed in late December, following the rehabilitation of the concrete tanks in the ATAD system.

The ATADs system will be switched back on in early January 2025. There may be some odour for one to two weeks during this process.

ATADs are a key part of our wastewater treatment process, turning sewage sludge into a valued biosolids product for agricultural reuse. Learn more about the ATADs maintenance works here.

Upgrades to the system that captures ‘rags’ – items like wet wipes that come through our wastewater system which should not be there – have been completed. This improved system uses a special type of endless bag to help contain odours.

Please remember the three Ps – only flush Pee, Poo and Paper down your toilet.

Learn more about how we manage odour at our plant here (under the Phase One tab of our website).

We encourage you to call us on 1300 363 200 to report any odour. The more we receive these reports, the more we can build a picture of the areas of our plant that need the most urgent attention.

Upcoming works – We have completed desludging of more than 500 tonnes of dry solids from Lagoon 2 and will desludge Lagoon 4 over a week in January.

A misting system will be installed after ATADs are recommissioned in January.

The inlet covers will be replaced in January. This will help mitigate odour as sewage arrives at the plant.

Our next update will be on Friday 10 January 2025.
